เกาะเสม็ด แม้จะตั้งอยู่ไม่ห่างจากฝั่งแผ่นดิน แต่ก็มีหาดทรายที่ละเอียดขาวสะอาดโดดเด่น นับเป็นจุดเด่นที่สร้างชื่อเสียงให้กับเกาะเสม็ดอย่างมาก ธรรมชาติรอบๆเกาะสวยงามไปด้วยเวิ้งอ่าวและหาดทรายขาวหลายแห่ง เกาะเสม็ด มาจากชื่อของต้นเสม็ดขาว และเสม็ดแดงขึ้นอยู่มากบนเกาะ ซึ่งในอดีตชาวบ้านนำมาทาไต้จุดไฟ และยังเชื่อกันว่าเกาะแห่งนี้คือ เกาะแก้วพิสดารในวรรณคดีเรื่องพระอภัยมณีของสุนทรภู่ ความเชื่อดังกล่าวทำให้มีการสร้างประติมากรรมตัวละครในเรื่องพระอภัยมณี ทั้งนางเงือก พระอภัยมณี  และนางผีเสื้อสมุทร ให้ได้เห็นอยู่ทั่วไปบนเกาะ

Origin of the Name “ Samet ”

KoSamet is not far from the land of Thailand. There are white sandy beaches. The nature around island is beautiful. The name of KoSamet is from the tree’s name (White Samet trees and Red Samet trees are natural grow at there.) In the past, villagers use the wood of that trees to a fuel and believe that this island is magical island (KoKaeoPhitsadarn) in the Thai novel, PhraAphai Mani which is written by SunthornPhu, the famous poet in Thailand. This belief is lead to establish sculptures of characters of this novel e.g. mermaid, PhraAphai Mani and lady aceanic giant (pee suasamet. That are symbols of KoSamet.)

ที่ตั้งและอาณาเขต ของเกาะเสม็ด

เกาะเสม็ด ตั้งตำบลท่าเพ อำเภอเมือง เป็นเกาะใหญ่ที่สุดในความดูแลของอุทยานแห่งชาติเขาแหลมหญ้าหมู่เกาะเสม็ด อยู่ห่างจากชายฝั่งบ้านเพประมาณ 6.5 กิโลเมตร มีเนื้อที่ประมาณ 3,125 ไร่ มีลักษณะเป็นเกาะรูปสามเหลี่ยม มีสันเขาเป็นแนวยาวจากตัวเกาะด้านเหนือมาทางด้านใต้ ส่วนฝั่งตะวันตกของเกาะเป็นหน้าผาสูง และลาดชันลงสู่ฝั่งตะวันออก ทำให้เกิดชายหาดที่สวยงาม มีภูเขาสลับซับซ้อนกันอยู่ 2-3 ลูก ทางทิศตะวันตกของเกาะเสม็ด เป็นตำแหน่งของอ่าวมะพร้าวที่ชายหาดที่สวยงาม ต้นมะพร้าวขึ้นเรียงรายอยู่มากมายสมชื่ออ่าวพร้าว ทั้งยังเป็นจุดชมพระอาทิตย์ตกที่สวยที่สุดของเกาะ ส่วนทางด้านตะวันออกมีอ่าวและหาดทรายสวยงามหลายแห่งเรียงทอดยาวต่อเนื่องกัน เริ่มจากหาดทรายแก้วเป็นหาดทรายที่ยาวที่สุด กว้างและยาวเกือบ 1 กิโลเมตร ถัดมาเป็นอ่าวไผ่ อ่าวพุทรา อ่าวทับทิม อ่าวนวล อ่าวช่อ อ่าววงเดือน ที่มีเอกลักษณ์เป็นหาดโค้งรูปวงเดือน อ่าวเทียน อ่าวหวาย และอ่าวกิ่วที่มีทั้งความสวยงาม และยังมีแหล่งปะการังอยู่ใกล้ๆ ชายฝั่งทางใต้มีอ่าวปะการังที่มีแหล่งปะการังที่สวยงามเหมาะแก่การดำน้ำตื้น ส่วนหัวแหลมด้านทิศใต้คือแหลมใหญ่ช่องเกาะจันทร์ มีแนวหินชายฝั่งรูปร่างแปลกๆ ไม่เหมาะที่จะเล่นน้ำ เพราะระดับน้ำลึกและมีน้ำวน แต่เป็นแหล่งตกปลาที่ดี เกาะเสม็ดจึงมีกิจกรรมท่องเที่ยวทางทะเลอย่างครบครัน ทั้งการชมวิวทิวทัศน์ที่สวยงาม เล่นน้ำทะเลใสๆ บนหาดทรายขาวๆ ดำน้ำตื้นดูปะการัง หรือจะดำน้ำลึกสัมผัสโลกใต้ทะเล ส่วนนักตกปลาทั้งหลายก็มีแหล่งตกปลาอยู่หลายแห่ง

Located

Samet is one of the Eastern Seaboat islands of Thailand. It is located in the Gulf of Thailand off thecoatlineof the Thai province of Rayong. KoSamet is part of Phesubdistrict of the AmphoeMuang of Rayong province. KoSamet is the largest in charge of Leamya – KoSamet National Parks. It is far from Ban Phe about 6.5 kilometers. KoSamet is approximately 9.5 squarekilometers in size, and shaped somewhat like a letter “t” or triangle. There is longitudinal mountain from the north to south. The west of this island is high cliff and slope to the east side of this and has 3 mountains,AoPrao is located on there. AoPraois one of beautiful place on KoSamet. There are a beautiful beach and coconut trees are grown along the seaside like the name of this bay, “AoPrao” in Thai is mean coconut. Moreover, here is the most beautiful sunset point of KoSamet. The east of KoSamet has beautiful bays and beaches along the seaside. The first beach is Haad Saikeao is the longest beach. The length of this beach is approximate 1 kilometer. Next to the Haad Saikeao is AoPhai, AoPudsa, AoTubtim, AoNuan, AoCho, AoWongduan(half-shaped), Ao Tian, Ao Wai and AoKiu, where are the beautiful places for the tourists. Nearby these bays are the beautiful coral reefs for snorkeling. The cape of this island is located on the southern, Yai Cape. Tourists are not allowed to swimming at there because there are strange shape of rocks in this area and deep whirlpool. Although swimming is not allowed here, tourists can fishing here.
